  • Acer smartphones: pocket-sized PCs
  • 2010-02-15 - From intelligent telephones designed for elite users to true phenomena for the general public: smartphones are popular and their invasion of the market is proof of this.

The intelligent phone segment is expected to reach a demand of 266 million pieces in 2010, absorbing about one fourth of worldwide mobile phone sales. According to recent market research, there are currently 4 billion persons worldwide who have subscribed to mobile phone services and about 200 million smartphones are sold every year, with an estimated market growth of 15% annually over the next 3-5 years. Acer, a recognised trendsetter, has set the objective of being one of the top five sellers by 2013 by fully exploiting the strength and the assets it has already attained in terms of computing and mobility.

“Next phase of growth in the mobile phone segment will be driven by a shift to more advanced technologies and a stronger demand for data services than voice over the coming few years. Acer’s expertise and experience as a notebook and PC vendor will help drive the success of our smartphone division,” explains Gianfranco Lanci, President & CEO of Acer Inc. “If we consider the growth of personal computers, we can see how it was driven mainly by Internet, or the user's need to connect and navigate. It is just a small step between connecting and needing to remain connected all the time. This is why the need to have small, portable devices has arisen".

Most users consider these devices as the perfect tool for chatting, navigating, and sending e-mails. Clearly, this boosted the need to make increasingly compact devices. Acer's goal is therefore to propose devices that combine the capabilities of a computer in terms of performance, with the most advanced phones features, such as extended battery life. In short, devices as powerful as computers but 'instant on' as telephones.

This is why Acer considers its mobile products – smartphones, netbboks and notebooks – to be web communication devices that coming with different sizes and performances meet diverse usage behaviours: from simple access to information and document via web all the way to the creation of increasingly complex content.

One Hand devices, such as smartphones, are the perfect choice for simple interaction with the web and accessing content. With a display ranging from 2.8- to 6-inch and often without a full keyboard, these devices can be easily operated with only one hand for immediate and effortless web surfing.

Two Hands tools meet the need of creating content, of writing texts and documents on the go. Netbooks were developed to meet this need. Light and compact, netbooks weight about 1kg and come with a display varying from 8.9 to 11.6-inch. They can be carried along at all times to write or review documents whenever you need.

To edit multimedia files you need better graphic and computing performances and a larger display. In short, you need a notebook. Notebook have more powerful processors, dedicated graphics and thanks to lager displays (starting from 12”) and full size keyboards, allow the processing of any type of content.
Today, being able to offer the market a continuity of experience involving netbooks/notebooks and smartphones is of critical importance. A continuity of experience gives users a sense of security, a common Acer experience. With Acer being connected anytime, anywhere is no longer a wish, but a firm reality.

With the arrival of smartphones on the Consumer market, users have found the answer to the growing demand of being able to access information and content via Internet, e-mail and, above all, Social Networks anytime, anywhere.

Acer is undoubtedly one of the companies that made major contributions to spreading the use of the smartphone in the consumer market thanks to an ample range of technologically innovative and easy to use devices, involving users in communications that are increasingly mobile and interactive.

When the most attractive forms designed to be amazing right down to the last detail meet with the best technologies, new Acer smartphones are born, devices with sophisticated styling and modern designs. Accessories brimming with personality to take always with you and show off.

The entire range of products with three different lines, the beTouch, neoTouch, and Liquid, is increasingly closer to the needs of consumers, and Acer is well aware that they are not all the same. This is why Acer aims to define the “right” product for each client based on their usage preferences. All users value simplicity and Acer is investing to improve user experience across all aspects such as ergonomics, user interface, applications and content.
